
Before beginning his career as a business leader, Charles Nabit studied as an undergraduate at the University of the South. A high-achieving student, he made the dean’s list and become a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. Charles Nabit graduated from the University of the South in 1977, receiving his bachelor of arts with magna cum laude distinction.
Mr. Nabit subsequently enrolled at Marshall-Wythe School of Law (now William & Mary Law School). While there, he become a member of the Order of the Coif honor society and served as associate editor of the William & Mary Law Review. Upon his graduation in 1980, Mr. Nabit ranked ninth a class of 134.
A few years later, an article Charles Nabit had written for the law review was published in the Enforcements of Judgements and Liens in Virginia law journal. The following year, after three years as an associate at a Baltimore law firm, he became the managing partner of the Westport Group. Still in this role today, he oversees the investment partnership’s securities and real estate interests.
Mr. Nabit also currently serves as the chairman and chief executive officer of Southport Financial. His achievements in this role include developing an e-commerce strategy based on electronic documentation in the financial services and healthcare fields. Mr. Nabit came to Southport Financial in 1999, and in this leadership of the firm, he draws on his deep experience in the healthcare industry.
This experience includes 22 years as the chairman and chief executive officer of Developmental Disability Management Services, a firm through which he provided healthcare facilities with financial and operational support.
Outside of his career, Charles Nabit has long given back to his community as a board member of art, cultural, educational, and healthcare institutions. He also manages the charitable giving of the Nabit Foundation, a private family foundation he leads as president.
